Late-season thunderstorm could hit Kamloops and area: Environment Canada

KAMLOOPS — A late-season thunderstorm could be hitting B.C.’s southern interior Wednesday (Sept. 25).

In a special weather statement issued Tuesday, Environment Canada states a vigorous cold front will cross the province Wednesday, including the Fraser Canyon, Nicola, North and South Thompson and Shuswap regions.

The weather agency says any thunderstorms that develop from the unstable airmass and strong winds will likely result in repeated heavy downpours from multiple thunderstorms over the same area.

Potential hazards include winds that can damage buildings, knock out power and break tree branches, heavy downpours that can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads and washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
