UPDATE: BURNS LAKE, B.C. — RCMP have released more details into Sunday’s discovery of a missing six-year-old girl Oaklynn Schweder.

RCMP say Oaklynn was located just after 6:00 p.m. in a forested area previously searched between her home and the band office, leaving searchers to believe she was likely moving around during the time she was missing.

“This is the outcome that we all hoped for, she was missing for multiple days, but everyone searching remained dedicated to bringing her home safely,” S/Sgt. Joshua Smith, Burns Lake RCMP Detachment Commander says. “We are thankful for the support of all our partner agencies and volunteers that worked day and night to achieve this outcome.”

EARLIER: BC RCMP confirmed Sunday evening to CKPG News that six-year-old Oaklynn Schweder has been located and is safe.

Details of the rescue have yet to be released. Prior to her rescue, she was last seen Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. outside her home on Southbank near Burns Lake.

Oaklynn was described as on the autism spectrum and non-verbal.

An extensive search by RCMP and regional search and rescue teams started immediately after her disappearance.
