WolfPack surrender stoppage time heartbreak in 2-1 loss to Golden Bears

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack men’s soccer club couldn’t pull off the upset over the top team in the Prairie Division Sunday (Sept. 22).

Elijah Dos Santos scored in the 47th minute to give TRU a 1-0 early in the second half but the WolfPack would surrender two goals – including the match winner in stoppage time – en route to a 2-1 loss to the University of Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton.

The loss comes after the WolfPack picked up a draw the day prior (Sept. 21) against the University of Calgary Dinos.

“I thought we were really good – the whole weekend, actually we were really good – we played the top two teams in the Prairie Division really tight,” John Antulov, WolfPack men’s soccer head coach states. “Like I said to the guys ‘obviously we are all upset, but it doesn’t take away from the way we played this weekend.’ At the end of the day, we are just making critical mistakes at the worst times and it’s hurting us right now.”

The men fall to one win, six losses and one draw on the 2024 Canada West season. They sit at the bottom of the Pacific Division.

The WolfPack return to Kamloops when they welcome the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds to Hillside Stadium Friday (Sept. 27) at 7:30 p.m.

Elsewhere, TRU’s women’s soccer team looks to rebound from a 2-0 home loss to the Mount Royal Cougars from Calgary when they host the UBC Thunderbirds to Hillside Stadium Friday at 5:00 p.m.
