Twice-annual Rotary Food Drive set for Saturday in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — The fall Rotary Food Drive is set for Saturday (Sept. 21) in Kamloops with volunteers collecting bags of non-perishable food items starting at 9:00 a.m.
The fall food drive is the biggest event for the Kamloops Food Bank every year, helping to bring in approximately 30 tons of food. In previous years, those supplies would keep the shelves stocked at the food bank for several months, but with the rising cost of living, it sadly moves out the door quicker than ever.
“Last year, we experienced an 85 per cent increase over the year prior,” outlined Kamloops Food Bank President and CEO Bernadette Siracky. “These types of food drives used to last us about three months. It’s definitely reduced in the amount of time it lasts, but what remains is this sense of community, of compassion, of giving and that definitely support our efforts year round.”
