VANCOUVER — The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has been honoured at the annual Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Vancouver.

The district announced it has received the ‘Excellence in Governance’ award for 2024, recognizing the TNRD’s service and taxation communication materials put together in preparation for this year’s budget.

The material included “detailed infographics showing services and their costs for each community, explaining “who does what,” and explaining the complexity of rural tax notices,” according to the district.

CAO Scott Hildebrand says it’s heartening to receive this recognition in the wake of the TNRD’s spending scandal that first came to light in 2020.

“For the past four years, under current leadership, the TNRD has worked extremely hard to overhaul its culture, and accountability and transparency are top of mind for our staff. Our work to present our annual budget and service information in a clear and transparent way is one example of that,” said Hildebrand.
