KAMLOOPS — No waterways are believed to be impacted following a notable fuel spill north of Rayleigh.

In a statement to CFJC Today, B.C.’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy says the semi tanker that rolled over late Saturday (Sept. 14) evening spilled 8,000 litres (about the volume of a storage unit) of fuel on the road and the adjacent railroad line.

However, the province believes most of the spill went into a ditch.

“The responsible party has activated an emergency response plan, and a qualified professional was on site to remediate the spill and take samples,” the ministry states. “The impacted tanker was removed once all the diesel fuel was recovered. A Provincial Environmental Emergency Response Officer was on scene to assess the situation and monitor clean up.”
