KAMLOOPS – On Sunday morning (Sept. 15), dedicated community members gathered at Riverside Park for the 44th Annual Terry Fox Run and the first in-person run held in Kamloops since 2020.

“One of our early meetings, we went for coffee, and we said, ‘We’re just going to start small and we’re going to set up in the park. It might just be two people walking it,'” said co-organizaer Brie Ferguson, “and then look at how many people came out today. It’s amazing and it shows that a little bit of hard work and heart goes a long way.”

Hundreds of participants had the option to do a 1-kilometre, 5-kilometre or 10-kilometre run or walk. The event smashed its goal by raising over $15,000 in funds and organizers know the event is crucial to raise awareness about cancer research.

“My mom died of cancer so I’ve been on every Terry Fox run since,” said co-organizer Sue Steenson. “Then I ended up with cancer in my 40s. As a teacher, I taught it to every class because it’s so important for young people to know about it. When there was no run, I said, ‘I need to do something.’“
