Weekend Kamloops RCMP recap includes rock-throwing attack, assault investigation, pedestrian collision

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to about 393 calls for service from Friday (Sept. 13) to 9:00 a.m. on Monday (Sept. 16).

Below are briefs from several reports.

Break and enter; suspect in custody

(File No. 2024-30826)

A report of a man smashing windows on Seymour Street led to police locating and arresting a suspect early Monday morning.

Police were called to an apartment building on the 400-block of Seymour Street at about 4:10 a.m. on Monday in response to the report.

As part of the investigation, a suspect who is known to police was taken into custody.

He was held for a bail hearing scheduled for Monday.

Assault investigation

Police are looking for information after a woman was injured on Sunday evening.

Officers were called to the 1200-block of Summit Drive at about 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, when a person attended the fire hall to report a woman was hurt and needed help.

The victim was suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, particularly to her face, and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

She was allegedly assaulted by a person described as a white male who was wearing a hat and dark clothing.

Anyone with pertinent information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.

Police investigating assault-with-a-weapon report

Kamloops RCMP officers arrived at a business on the 800-block of Notre Dame Drive at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday to find a man who had allegedly been struck by a rock thrown by a nearby person.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as a man with a dark complexion, dark hair and a beard. He was wearing a blue shirt and camouflage pants and was carrying a brown backpack. The incident is not believed to be random.

Report pertinent information to RCMP.

Pedestrian-motor vehicle collision

Police responded to the area of Tranquille Road and Vernon Avenue on Friday afternoon for a report of a collision involving a skateboarder and a bus.

At about 1:15 p.m., a man riding a skateboard northbound on Tranquille Road was reported to have collided with a southbound bus. The man was transported to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with video or information can contact police.

Imitation firearm seized

(File No. 2024-30474)

A large police presence was visible at Tranquille Road and 12th Street Friday afternoon in response to a weapons report.

A group of youths was present and one of them had what appeared to be a firearm. Officers located a suspect nearby who surrendered a Gelsoft imitation handgun to police.

Police seized the item for destruction and had discussions with the youth and their parent regarding the incident.

Mischief to vehicles

(File No. 2024-30473)

Complaints of a person throwing rocks at moving vehicles led to police arresting a man Friday morning.

Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment members were called to the 3000-block of the Yellowhead Highway at about 9:20 a.m. in response to the reports.

A man was taken into custody and later released following consultation with the Integrated Crisis Response Team.

No charge recommendations were requested by the victims, as minimal damage was sustained.
