KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack women’s soccer club were shut out by the top-ranked University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds 1-0 at on the road Sunday (Sept. 15).

UBC scored the only goal of the match 29 minutes in. They fired 26 shots at TRU, 10 of them on target, but WolfPack goalkeeper Cassandra De Amaral made nine saves in the defeat. TRU tested UBC goalkeeper Lita Billman twice with their two shots.

The WolfPack are the first club to hold the Thunderbirds to fewer than three goals so far in the 2024 Canada West season.

“I thought for the most part we gave a good account of ourselves against the defending national champions,” Mark Pennington, TRU women’s soccer head coach says. “We defended well, and I think we showed that for long stretches of this game we can run with a really good team. There’s a lot of positives we can take. I thought the commitment and energy from everyone was outstanding. We didn’t do enough to threaten their goal, but we hung in there and then it’s about trying to create something or get a bit of luck.”

The WolfPack fall to two wins, three losses and zero draws on the 2024 Canada West season, good for six points in five matches. They’re tied with the UBC Okanagan Heat for fourth in the Pacific Division.

The WolfPack return to Kamloops for a four-match homehstand. Next up is a match against the University of Victoria Vikes Friday, Sept. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at Hillside Stadium.
