KAMLOOPS – Starting at 7:00 a.m., hundreds of vehicles made the drive to Cascades Casino to support the annual Starfish Backpack fundraiser.

“This is something people are looking forward to every year. They bring their families, they bring their kids, and they’re really showing that in a tangible way,” said Kamloops Food Bank Executive Director Bernadette Siracky. “Today showed just how clearly everybody really supports it. The cars did not stop. The energy here in Cascades Casino was so incredibly special.”

Coffee, breakfast wraps and other goodies were donated by local businesses. For a minimum $10 donation, motorists could drive through and take their breakfasts to go.

All the proceeds raised at Friday’s event go to the local Starfish Backpack program, which supplies 250 students in School District 73 with nutritious food every week.

According to the Kamloops Food Bank, the event grows every year and more businesses participate.

While the total amount raised is still being counted, organizers have deemed this year’s drive-thru as the biggest one yet.

“We are just cleaning up from literally the most successful drive-thru breakfast we’ve ever had in support of the Starfish Backpack program,” said Siracky. “Kamloops showed up today by the hundreds of vehicles. It was so much fun. I’m still just so impressed and so excited by the support that we received today for this program.”
