Extended overhaul of Halston Bridge expected to wrap up in October

KAMLOOPS — BC’s Ministry of Transportation says a more-than-year-long repair project along the Halston Bridge in Kamloops should be completed by the end of autumn.

The work was initially estimated to be completed in May of 2024, but extra repair work extended the completion date into October. Tens of thousands of vehicles pass over the Halston Bridge on a daily basis and the overhaul reduced the flow to single lane traffic in each direction.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure did not provide an interview to CFJC Today and sent details about the delay in an emailed statement.

MOT says after the work began, crews found that additional repairs were needed on the deck surface and joints, which resulted in an extension to the schedule.

The bridge is expected to reopen to four lanes by the end of September. Lane closures may be needed during final finishing work in October, but MOT says that would take place during the evening to avoid further delays in the area.
