UPDATE (10:00 a.m.): A water rescue near Riverside Park has turned into a search for a missing man.

In an update Tuesday morning, Kamloops RCMP say one of two men who were heard yelling for help from the river near Overlanders Bridge was found and brought to shore by paramedics.

However, the other man remains outstanding.

“According to the report, the two men had been in a small boat on the river when it capsized,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says. “One man was wearing a lifejacket and resurfaced; the second was not wearing one and was not immediately located.”

The missing person is described as a white man in his 40s with a bald head and scruffy beard. He was dressed in a blue and black checkered shirt and blue pants.

Kamloops RCMP, Kamloops Search and Rescue and RCMP Air Services are assisting with the search along the river shore.

“As the search continues, we’re asking the public to please remain on the lookout and report anyone who appears on the shoreline who could be our missing person,” Evelyn says.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — A water rescue is underway near Riverside Park.

Kamloops RCMP confirmed it was requested to assist Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) at the 100-block of Lorne Street.

KFR Deputy Chief Ryan Cail says the call came in at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 3) where there were two people in the river asking for help. KFR dispatched a boat with a full crew.

As of publication, the status of the two people are unknown. Meantime, Cail is reminding the public to have a personal floatation device close if they’re going to be near the water.

“When you got any moving water, whether it be an unstable bank or moving water like the river, you’ve got to be careful of currents,” Cail told CFJC Today. “It may look minor and it might not look like there are any life threatening concerns, but there is.”

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided once it’s available.
