KAMLOOPS — RCMP are calling the spraying of racist graffiti at a children’s park in Westsyde, “appalling.”

According to a news release distributed by Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, the vandalism was reported Wednesday (Aug. 28) at Rainbow Park on McCurrach Place in Westsyde.

Investigators say the “dark and disturbing” graffiti was painted sometime after 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.

“The fact that someone would intentionally damage a children’s park in and of itself is appalling, but that they would further subject the community to such hateful and racist words is absolutely disgusting,” said Evelyn. “The local residents who were present while the responding police officer investigated all expressed their disdain and disapproval of the language used and the crime committed.”

In addition to the picnic table pictured, Evelyn says numerous items in the park were targeted. RCMP members recovered spray paint cans as they investigated.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has relevant video or saw someone return home Tuesday night with spray paint on their hands is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2024-28418.
