Beloved KSO book sale lives on, even with majority of stock destroyed in St. Andrew’s fire

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Symphony Orchestra will still hold Barb’s Used Book and Music sale despite losing 80 per cent of its books earlier in the year.

The books were in the basement of St. Andrew’s on the Square church and took on significant water damage when crews put out a blaze in the building back in early May.

Now, the KSO is asking for the public’s help in donating items to help the book sale this coming fall.

“We have two things — we have our fundraiser to replace the things we have lost that we need to have,” said office administrator Sue Adams. “The other piece of this is, of course, the books. We are looking to people to help us with book donations. In saying books, I’m also including the tables and the bookshelves and all those pieces and parts that make us a success.”

The organization is also looking for volunteers to help run the donation drive.

KSO will be taking donations at the Pavilion Theatre on September 3 to 5, 7 to 9 and 14 to 16 — all from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The next sale will take place in October.

“The sale will go from October 5 to 26. We will be closed on Mondays only and the hours really do vary, so check the website for those,” said Adams. “A thank-you is in order for everybody’s who has donated, anybody who purchased from us, our volunteers in the city of Kamloops — and as well as to the Pavilion and Western Canada Theatre for giving us a hand with a temporary home.”
