BC Highway Patrol issues more than 150 tickets during 4-day Cariboo blitz

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — BC Highway Patrol were busy from August 15 to 18 with focused traffic enforcement on Highway 97 from 83 Mile to Hixon.

Over the four days, officers issued 151 tickets for a number of violations including distracted driving, defective vehicles, vehicle restraints and 106 speeding tickets.

Officers impounded four vehicles for seven days for excessive speed including:

  • A red pickup going 148 km/hour in a 100 km/hour zone;
  • A black SUV going 155 km/hour in a 100 km/hour zone; and
  • A black Jeep travelling at 161 km/hour in a 100 km/hour zone with no insurance.

“Our teams take the job of making our highways safer together seriously. The enforcement that was conducted over the weekend had a positive impact on the communities that they not only serve but reside in”, said Sgt. Jason Nash, Northern Highway Patrol. “As we approach the final long weekend of the summer, we will continue to target high-risk drivers with the end goal of eliminating serious injury and fatal collisions on our highways.”

Officers impounded the vehicles of three impaired drivers and prohibited them from driving for 90 days. Officers also impounded the vehicles of six prohibited drivers. Two drivers were arrested on outstanding warrants for drive while prohibited and disobey a court order. Both were released with a future court date.
