Annual Caribbean Food and Music Festival brings the spirit of the islands to Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Over this past weekend, the 4th Annual Kamloops Caribbean Food and Music Festival was held at Riverside Park, serving as a chance to learn and experience Caribbean culture in the community.

The festivities were held down at Riverside Park and included live music, food from countries throughout the Caribbean and activities for everyone to enjoy. The event was spearheaded by the Kamloops Caribbean Cultural Society, who says it’s a way for people to learn about the region and share their lifestyle.

“This weekend, we just wanted the families in Kamloops to come out and be a part of this multicultural event. We get to display our Caribbean culture through mostly food and music and then we give a little history, a little bio on each Caribbean island,” said society founder Jeremy Rodney.

Many different performers took to the stage including Clifford Palmer, otherwise known as ‘King Fish,’ who showed off his limbo skills for all to see. It’s Palmer’s third year performing at the festival and to him, it’s always an easy decision to come back to such a fun event.

“It’s very important to me to share the culture so everyone can know what the Caribbean has to offer,” said Palmer. “We have a lot to offer and I know [everyone] will enjoy it a lot. For me to bring my talent to Kamloops, I’m very excited for that. I just enjoy performing, I enjoy the interaction with the artists and I enjoy the love I’m getting from the people.”
