KAMLOOPS –The smell of barbeque on the grill, sauce-covered fingers, and bare bones means one thing. Ribfest. Six different ribbers were competing for the top spot at Western Canada’s biggest rib festival over the past weekend.

Gator BBQ is one of those ribbers, originally from Florida and now from Ontario. Their team says the Kamloops Daybreak Rotary Ribfest is one of the premier events they look forward to attending every year.

“Well, this is a 12-year show, and I’ve been here since the beginning and it’s been a really good, Ribfest. It’s one of the best ones. Port Moody, Kamloops, and Esquimalt are the biggest, and best shows for us.” says Nick Smith, Pit Master, Gator BBQ

It wasn’t only the ribbers enjoying the festivities, as the event as a whole has been a great success. Not only in the eyes of organizers, but also rib lovers.

“People are all having their favorite ribs. They like to try them all. We’ve got people that come down and they’ll check out two ribs a day and that’s how they get through it. They bring their families down and share. The city is a hub of activity, let’s give all these people layers and opportunities to do anything you want,” adds Ribfest organizer and spokesperson, Bryce Herman.

After tallying the votes from the weekend, Grizzly BBQ came out on top with the ‘People’s Choice’ award, while Smokin’ Outlaws BBQ took home the honour of ‘Best Ribs’.
