KAMLOOPS — Pride month programming will get underway on Thursday (Aug. 1) at the Kamloops Museum and Archives.

This summer, the museum is collaborating with the Kamloops Pride Society to present Absent Voices, Rainbow Stories.

The program will support the growth of the Kamloops Museum and Archives as an inclusive and welcoming space that supports the many voices of the Kamloops 2SLGBTQPIA-plus community.

Participants can drop by the museum any time between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday to share historic moments, memories and lived experiences on rainbow postcards.

Postcards and other contributions will become part of the archives’ collection.

“The Kamloops Museum and Archives is honoured and proud to collaborate with the Kamloops Pride Society and the 2SLGBTQPIA-plus community in the presentation of Absent Voices, Rainbow Stories this season,” Julia Cyr, the city’s museum supervisor said. “The museum is a welcoming and inclusive space that uplifts all community voices. We are grateful to be given the opportunity to be a place for our community to convene and share in the human experience through stories, memories and perspectives. The museum’s work is driven with the hope that by nurturing lifelong learners through meaningful engagement we can inspire our visitors to meet the challenges of our world today and in the future.”

In addition to Absent Voices, Rainbow Stories, Kamloops Museum and Archives is collaborating this summer with the Kamloops Pride Society, the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library, the Kamloops Art Gallery and the Big Little Science Centre to bring rainbow magic to Kamloops for families.

Families are invited to join the Rainbow Magic Passport Program, Rainbow Connections on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Rainbow magic activities will be available at the Kamloops Museum and Archives, the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library, the Kamloops Art Gallery and the Big Little Science Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Participants will earn a stamp at each location.

Passports with two or more stamps can be dropped off at any location to be entered in the prize draw on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

A passport can be picked up at the Kamloops Museum and Archives or any collaborating partner location during the week of Aug. 17.
