Evacuation ordered west of 100 Mile House as wildfire looms

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — The Cariboo Regional District has put an evacuation order and alert in place just west of 100 Mile House due to the growing Moose Valley wildfire.

The affected properties are on either side of Helena Lake Road, including those surrounding McKinlay Lake, Mirage Lake and Tad Lake.

Residents and occupants of these properties must leave immediately. An Emergency Support Services (ESS) reception centre has been set up at the 100 Mile House Community Hall.

An evacuation alert surrounds the evacuation order area, stretching north to the southern edge of the Lac La Hache body of water.

B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) discovered the Moose Valley wildfire on Monday (July 22) and believe it was caused by a lightning strike. As of Wednesday evening, it was measured at 240 hectares.

Thirty-five BCWS personnel were fighting the fire Wednesday, along with helicopters, air tankers and heavy equipment.
