Advisories in place for users of Clearwater, Lac La Hache water systems

CLEARWATER and LAC LA HACHE, B.C. β€” The District of Clearwater has made an urgent request to users of its water system that they reduce their usage.

In a Voyent Alert! message, the district says it wants to ensure the system has sufficient capacity to support firefighting efforts.

On Tuesday (July 23), the district noted a peak usage of 6,600 cubic metres, saying that is as much as the City of Vernon uses during winter months. Vernon is roughly 17 times the population of Clearwater.

Clearwater asks users to limit lawn watering to between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m., and 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. on odd or even days, depending on house numbers.

Meantime to the west, the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has issued a water quality advisory for users of the Lac La Hache water system.

The CRD says firefighting efforts in the region have drawn down the system to below 10 per cent twice in the past 24 hours.

Officials are conducting sampling β€œto ensure no transient backflow events contaminated the system.”

High-risk users such as those with weakened immune systems or those with young children are advised to boil water from the system before consuming it or using it for brushing teeth or dishwashing.
