CSRD issues evacuation alert for 14 properties south of Sorrento due to nearby wildfire

UPDATE (8:45 a.m.): The BC Wildfire Service notes the Newsome Creek spot fire southwest of Sorrento on its online map.

The CSRD says the Shuswap Fire Department is on scene. Crews say the fire is burning at Rank 1, a smouldering ground fire, after it was burning at Rank 3, a moderately vigorous surface fire, earlier Tuesday morning.

The evacuation alert remains in place for the 14 properties.

EARLIER: SORRENTO, B.C. — An evacuation alert was issued for 14 properties near Sorrento at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday (July 23).

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) states a wildfire is burning in the South Shore Place and Elson Road area south of the CP Rail tracks.

The following properties in Electoral Area G of the CSRD are under evacuation alert:

  • 591 to 622 Elson Rd.
  • 608 to 650 South Shore Pl.

As of 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, the wildfire south of Sorrento is not listed on the BC Wildfire Service’s online map.
