South Thompson, 100 Mile House among regions included in special air quality statement

Environment Canada released a special air quality statement on Friday (July 19) to warn residents of impact of wildfire smoke over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Among the regions of the province included in the statement are the South Thompson and 100 Mile House.

The fine particles in wildfire smoke pose the main health risk, according to the statement.

Those more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke include seniors, pregnant people, smokers, infants and young children, people who work outdoors, people involved in strenuous outdoor exercise and people with an existing illness or chronic health condition.
