Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter case thrown out by judge

Alec Baldwin won’t be going to prison over the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of Rust, as a judge dismissed the manslaughter case on Friday. The decision came “with prejudice” (meaning the case can’t be re-filed) after prosecutors failed to share a batch of bullets with the defense in a failure that appalled the judge. Gasps were heard in the courtroom as an emotional Baldwin hugged his family. “There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now,” he wrote Saturday on Instagram. “To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.”

Despite the ruling, attorney Gloria Allred, who represents Hutchins’ family in Ukraine, will to continue pursuing Baldwin in civil court. Hutchins’ widower, Matthew, had previously settled with Baldwin and the Rust production, but may decide to resume his case after lapses in payment obligations from the production. Baldwin’s attorney anticipates there may be a trial in the future. (Variety)
