CLEARWATER — Limited nursing availability has forced the closure of the emergency department at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater, according to a press release on Saturday evening from Interior Health.

Emergency services will be unavailable from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday (July 14).

Patients can access care at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops or 100 Mile House District General Hospital in 100 Mile House during the closure in Clearwater.

All other inpatient services will continue as normal at Dr. Helmcken Memorial.

The shuttering marks the sixth ER closure this year at Dr. Helmcken Memorial.

Those in the community who need life-threatening emergency care, such as chest pains, difficulty breathing and severe bleeding, can call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility.
