KAMLOOPS — A family fair will be held at the Tk’emlups Powwow Arbour this Saturday (July 13), aiming to raise $12,000 for the Kamloops Y Women’s Emergency Shelter.

The event was organized by a group of students with the Breath Integration Coaching and Training Centre, who were looking for a cause to support with a community fundraiser and chose the women’s shelter.

“We just all truly felt honoured to support them,” says Katy Thorne, one of the six organizers behind the event. The group has been working with the Breath Integration Centre, which encourages its students and coaches to organize some type of giving-back event each year.

“We’re synergistically coming together to put on a fundraiser,” adds Thorne. “We’re doing a family fair event and we have a dunk tank, bouncy castle, food, drinks — just a lot of fun for your kids, for your family and anyone who wants to come out to support. We have a silent auction going on, so a lot of items to choose from.”

The fair runs this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Powwow Arbour. Tickets can be purchased online and more information can be found on the Funding the Fortress Family Fair event page on Facebook.
