KAMLOOPS– The winners of this year’s Y Dream Home Lottery were drawn Wednesday morning (June 26) on site of the 3-bedroom Orchards Walk development home.

While Katherine Martin, the winner of the Dream Home itself is out of province, she’s not the only one celebrating.

Dan Peterson was in the middle of a pickleball game when he missed a call from Bryce Herman, spokesperson for the Y Dream Home Lottery.

“I didn’t actually see the message until I was partway through the game and people at the courts were saying, ‘hey, guess what? We heard your name on the radio. You’re a lucky winner of the 50/50,’” Peterson told CFJC News.

“So I had to check my phone and there was Bryce’s message.”

Peterson was drawn as the 50/50 winner, taking home $428,237.50.

“We always get so excited about that day because we know we’re going to change people’s lives and today we did exactly that,” said Herman.

“Dan is very excited and understandably so, it’s life-changing to get a check of that size, and I might say, and especially when it’s tax-free.”

Buying a Y Lotto ticket is a yearly tradition for Dan, but this is the first time he has gotten a call with good news.

“I’ve been supporting the Y and Y Dream Home lottery for many years now,” said Peterson.

“It’s great to give a little back and never expect to win, but all the great things that the Y has done for folks in this town, it’s awesome for me.”

While he doesn’t have any hard plans for his winnings just yet, he does want to give back to the community to celebrate.

“Tonight our boy is playing at the Senior Rattlers playoff game, at Memorial Arena, so if anyone were to drop by and say hi, they’ll find me in their beer garden and there might be an extra beer for them after.”
