WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake RCMP are investigating after a BC Wildfire Service compound north of the city was vandalized.

RCMP say officers were told of a mischief report to the property near Minton Lake and Lund Road at around 1:42 a.m. Monday (June 10).

In a news release issued Tuesday, RCMP say sand was poured in a trailer pump, making it inoperable. Police say evidence suggests the suspect, or suspects, cut the fence at the property.

“While no other buildings on the property were broken into, several items were spray painted,” RCMP state. “A crime of this nature goes beyond mere damage but can greatly impact public safety. When essential equipment used in fighting wildfires is not readily available it impacts response times and the ability to ensure wildfire suppression efforts.”
