Kamloops’ ‘Reaching Home’ funding oversubscribed for 2024-26
KAMLOOPS — ‘Reaching Home’, is a federally funded community based program to prevent and reduce homelessness across Canada.
“The program provides grant funding to urban, Indigenous, rural, and remote communities to help address their local homelessness needs,” reads a staff report to Kamloops city council.
The program has been running since 2012, and was renamed to Reaching Home in 2018. For the years from 2024-2026, the city of Kamloops was issued $1.8 Million to distribute to local organizations. In total, $4.7 Million was requested resulting in the program being oversubscribed.
“This significant funding deficit indicates there is a growing need for more investment in programs and services for our community’s most vulnerable,” continues the report.
