Family, friends mourn teen who died just weeks ahead of Valleyview Secondary graduation

KAMLOOPS — In the midst of what is supposed to be a celebratory season, Grade 12 students at Valleyview Secondary School are mourning the passing of a classmate and friend.

An online fundraiser has identified the victim of a fatal motor vehicle incident in Valleyview Saturday (May 25) as 18-year-old Jakob Gottfriedson.

Fundraiser organizer Sarah Thomas says Gottfriedson was “a vibrant soul with an infectious smile” who was active in the Kamloops hockey community.

Thomas says the young man’s death will leave “an unexpected deep void,” especially for his mother and four sisters.
