More snow expected for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt overnight: Environment Canada

May 28, 2024 | 6:44 AM

MERRITT, B.C. — It’s nearly June, but drivers on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt can expect more snowfall overnight.

In a special weather statement posted online, Environment Canada says snow levels are forecast to drop below the mountain pass on the stretch of Highway 5 from Tuesday (May 28) night until Wednesday morning.

The weather agency warns visibility can be reduced during the light snowfall. It’s due to an upper trough of low pressure that will bring a cool airmass to B.C.’s southern interior Tuesday night.

Environment Canada adds that weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
