KAMLOOPS — Logan Stankoven fever is manifesting at Jersey City in Aberdeen Mall, according to store manager Matt Axani.

“It’s been pretty crazy,” Axani said. “The town is really supporting him. The whole family is getting jerseys.”

Stankoven and his Dallas Stars are jostling with the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL’s Western Conference final, with the best-of-seven series tied at 1-1 and Game 3 slated for Monday (May 27) in the Alberta capital.

The 5-foot-8 Kamloopsian Stankoven began the campaign toiling for the Texas Stars, playing about two-thirds of the American Hockey League season and doing enough to earn rookie of the year honours before making the jump to NHL-affiliate Dallas and sticking.

“We haven’t had a ton of Dallas merchandise previously in the store because it’s not the biggest market around Kamloops, but even when he was playing in the AHL, we had a lot of people coming and asking about Stars’ jerseys, even Texas Stars’ jerseys – tons of people,” Axani said.

“We’re starting to finally get some Dallas stuff in here. Behind Canucks, it’s definitely our top-selling jersey. We have people asking about Logan, ‘Do you have this? Do you have that?’”

Axani said Stankoven jerseys were out of stock as of Wednesday (May 22), but he is expecting a shipment some time in the next two weeks.

“Hopefully, just in time for them advancing to the finals,” Axani said. “I don’t want to jinx anything here, but I do have some on the way, some jerseys with Stankoven and some Dallas Stars’ hats in the next 10 days.”

Axani said youth NHL jerseys cost between $100 and $150, while adult jerseys with no name and number go for about $200. An adult jersey with name and number included sells for about $280 to $300.

Young hockey fans have been spearheading the Stankoven sales boost.

“They might have seen Logan at an autograph event or obviously watched him with the Blazers last year and they’re really excited to cheer the local guy on,” Axani said.

But folks of all ages are willing to drop a few bucks on the hometown hero.

In fact, Axani and his father are proud owners of No. 11 Stars’ jerseys, with the Stankoven name bar on the back.

“We’re both big fans of Logan, as well,” Axani said.
