CHORZOW, POLAND — Ethan Katzberg of the Kamloops Track and Field Club is holding steady as the gold medal favourite in men’s hammer throw for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris.

The reigning world champion won gold at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial this past weekend in Chorzów, Poland.

He threw 79.12 metres to finish nearly two metres ahead of second-place finisher Pawel Fajdek (77.23m) of Poland.

Katzberg dismantled his own Canadian record and posted the ninth-longest heave in the history of men’s hammer throw last month at an event in Kenya, with a throw of 84.38m.
