Overnight snowfall expected for Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector

KAMLOOPS — More May snowfall is coming for mountain highway passes near Kamloops and Merritt.

In a special weather statement online, Environment Canada says around two to four centimetres of snow is expected for the Coquihalla Highway from Kamloops all the way to Hope and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna from Tuesday (May 21) night until Wednesday morning.

The weather agency says it’s due to an upper trough of low pressure that will bring a cooler airmass to B.C.’s southern interior over the next few days.

“Snow levels will drop below the passes for most high elevation travellers routes tonight and snowfall can be expected through Wednesday morning. Snow level is forecast to rise above the mountain passes Wednesday afternoon,” Environment Canada states.
