KAMLOOPS — Fire season may have roared to life in parts of the province — but the high elevations of the Southern Interior are still expecting May long weekend snow.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for snow on the mountain passes starting Thursday night (May 16).

The forecasting service says about 2-to-5 centimetres of snow is expected overnight Thursday, into Friday morning and possibly as late as Saturday morning.

“An upper low will bring a cool airmass to higher elevations of the BC Interior late Thursday into this long weekend,” notes the statement. “Colder air along with precipitation means the mountain passes can expect a dusting of snow overnight Thursday and possibly overnight Friday.
