LYTTON, B.C. — Organizers of the Lytton River Festival are seeking performers, sponsors and venders ahead of the event on Labour Day weekend.

The 20th anniversary of the traditional cultural and community event that celebrates the people and culture of the two major rivers that meet in the Village of Lytton, the Thompson and Fraser rivers, is scheduled to take place Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Although Jessoa Lightfoot, president of the Lytton River Festival and a village councillor, says in a news release issued Wednesday (May 15) that some of the festival’s key funding has fallen through.

“We are actively seeking additional sponsors, and any financial assistance they may be able to provide would help ensure that the festival continues to be a beacon of resilience and celebration for our communities,” Lightfoot states.

The festival features a community feast, live music, a street dance, kids’ activities, cultural displays and “make and take” sessions with local artisans and knowledge keepers.

““While the wildfire of 2021 destroyed much of our village, it didn’t destroy the festival. In fact, we’re planning once again to hold the event in the Village townsite as part of the community’s gradual return to everyday life,” Lightfoot states. “As we approach the 20th anniversary, we invite everyone to come together once more, celebrating our collective strength and cultural heritage.”
