Kamloops Blazers preparing this week for two draft days

KAMLOOPS — Management and scouting teams across the Western Hockey League are making final adjustments to player rankings this week ahead of a pair of drafts.

The Kamloops Blazers are slated to pick sixth overall and 23rd overall in the WHL U.S. Priority Draft, which is slated to get underway at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday (May 8).

Kamloops is scheduled to make 12 selections in the WHL Prospects Draft, which will get underway at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday (May 9).

The Blazers will pick once in the first round, with the 22nd overall pick that was acquired in a trade with the Saskatoon Blades.

Kamloops has two second-round picks, four third-round picks and one pick each in the fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth and 10th rounds.

The U.S. Priority Draft is a two-round selection process that enables clubs to secure the WHL playing rights of Americans from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Players eligible for the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft are 2009-born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Players not selected in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft will remain eligible to be listed by WHL clubs at any time thereafter.
