Last call for new shoes before CFJC TV Boogie the Bridge

KAMLOOPS — In just over a week’s time, the Overlanders Bridge will be one of the busiest spots in the city, as thousands of red-clad runners and walkers will file over it as part of the 27th Annual CFJC TV Boogie the Bridge.

“Super excited,” Boogie the Bridge founder Jo Berry tells CFJC Today. “Boogie prep is going wonderfully. I can’t wait to see everybody and be on that big field with everyone in red and see them come across the bridge.”

Whether you’re already registered or plan to wait to see what the weather looks like when you wake up on April 28, footwear is a critical factor in performance and comfort on race day.

“If you’re looking for a new pair of shoes or your shoes are broken down, it’s really important to get them now,” Berry suggests. “Get them at a specialty running store so people can help you with your feet.”

Runners Sole has been a long-time supporter of Boogie the Bridge and many other events in the community.

Store manager Colin Holte suggests grabbing those new kicks as soon as possible so you can break them in before the big event.

“We always say nothing new on race day, and we’re 10 days out,” Holte says. “You wouldn’t want to leave it too much longer. I don’t want you blistered on race day.”

Choosing the right footwear can definitely impact — well, the impact you feel when running or walking.

“When you run, we say you land with three times your body weight. Walking, one time your body weight,” Holte says. “Think about doing that for five, ten kilometres, a half-marathon or longer, still.”

Kindness, love and community health are the values on which Berry founded Boogie the Bridge. It’s a message that the folks up at Runners Sole happily support year after year.

“Movement is change, as Jo will always tell us,” Holte says. “It’s a healthy community that we want to support. I think I’ve said before exercise is my anti-drug, and I think that’s true for a lot of people.”

“Seeing everyone embrace those core values and giving everyone high-fives, it’s just — for our whole team, that’s what it’s about,” Berry explains.

The CFJC Boogie the Bridge is set for April 28 and kicks off at 7:00 am in Downtown Kamloops.
