KAMLOOPS — Mounties in Kamloops say one man was taken to hospital after an incident involving a large police presence downtown Monday morning (April 8).

In a release, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says Kamloops RCMP’s Integrated Crisis Response Team (previously referred to as Car40), was called on Monday to check on the well-being of a man who appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis.

Considering the information provided and the potential high-risk nature of the situation, a number of police officers arrived on scene in the area of St. Paul Street West and First Avenue around 11:00 a.m. and tried to speak with the person.

“Based the situation and risk assessment, a conductive-energy device was effectively deployed and officers were able to safely apprehend the man under the Mental Health Act,” states Evelyn.
