KAMLOOPS — Interior Health has experienced interruptions to its Picture Archiving and Communication System that supports remote radiology reading of CT, X-ray and ultrasound scans.

The regional health authority told CFJC Today in an email on Friday (April 5) that a problem with the system occurred at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (April 4).

“We take any interruptions to this and other systems seriously, and as soon as the issue was identified our teams worked to resolve it,” Interior Health said in the email.

The system was back online by 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, but reoccurrences of similar issues took place on Friday, according to the email from Interior Health.

“We have site-specific downtime procedures that were activated to ensure sustainability of services, including utilizing back-up software,” Interior Health said in the email.

“Impact varies from site to site, and it may add delays for the medical teams and patients. We have not seen reports of major impact to patient care, but will continue to monitor closely.”

Interior Health apologized for inconvenience caused by the outage and notes it is investigating the root cause to prevent future disruptions.
