KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Airport (YKA) is receiving $1.8 million for runway improvements.

In a news release issued Tuesday (April 2) morning, B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure states the funding for YKA will go towards taxiway rehabilitation. Taxiways are used to connect runways with aprons, hangars, terminals and other facilities at an airport.

The $1.8 million for YKA is part of $11 million of provincial funding allocated for 26 projects at B.C. airports through the B.C. government’s BC Air Access Program for 2024-25.

“The BC Air Access Program provides front-line funding that supports wildfire suppression, air-ambulance, emergency-response, tourism and economic-development initiatives for British Columbia’s airports,” Heather McCarley, BC Aviation Council chair says. “These strategic investments are particularly important for the province’s remote, rural and Indigenous communities.”

Elsewhere, the District of 100 Mile House received $35,000 to develop an airport master plan and the District of Clearwater received $19,000 for a medevac helipad feasibility study and construction plan.
