VANCOUVER — It’s another NHL first for a member of the 2022-23 Kamloops Blazers’ Memorial Cup host team.

Olen Zellweger scored his first NHL goal in the Anaheim Ducks’ 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena Sunday (March 31).

The Calgary-born defenceman ripped a wrist shot from a sharp angle past Canucks’ goalie Arturs Silovs early in the third period Sunday afternoon, making the game 2-1 Vancouver.

The Ducks would tie the game a short time later before Dakota Joshua scored his second of the game for Vancouver, giving the Canucks the victory.

Zellweger was playing his 19th NHL game. During the 2022-23 WHL campaign, the mobile rearguard tallied 52 points in 32 regular season games after Kamloops acquired him from the Everett Silvertips. He added 29 points in 14 playoff games for the Blazers.

The captain of that team, Logan Stankoven, was called up earlier this season by the Dallas Stars. He has 6 goals and 6 assists in 17 games for the Stars since his promotion.
