Update as of 4:30 p.m Friday (Mar. 22): Sun Peaks Resort has provided additional comments after the initial release sent out Thursday afternoon.

“We are deeply saddened by the death that occurred in Sun Peaks, on-mountain on March 21. Tragically, an adult male guest died of his injuries after a collision with a tree on a beginner trail on Mt. Morrisey.

While enjoying the mountain environment is not without risk, events of this nature are rare, and we strive to provide a safe environment for everyone. At this time, our focus is supporting those in need, including our employees who attended to the injured guest and have been involved with this situation.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of this individual.”

The resort adds it’s cooperating with the RCMP’s investigation. The case is now with the B.C. Coroner’s Service.
