RCMP seize weapons, body armour, drugs

KAMLOOPS — Two traffic investigations this week in Kamloops resulted in weapons, body armour and illegal drug seizures, according to a Kamloops RCMP press release.

A Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling on Victoria Street at about 4 a.m. on Tuesday (March 19) and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a burnt headlight.

Further investigation revealed the driver was prohibited. As police were arresting the driver, a weapon was observed.

The search continued and revealed two firearms, paraphernalia conducive with drug trafficking and illegal drugs.

“Kamloops police officers continue to be proactive in the enforcement of illegal drug trafficking and weapons offences associated with violent offenders,” Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Officer in Charge, said in the press release. “These enforcement strategies continue to remove firearms, weapons and potentially lethal substances from the community, and their successes are a testament to the officers who do this every shift.”

Two of the three people in the vehicle located on Victoria Street were arrested and released on an undertaking with a court date. A third person was released without process.

Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the ongoing investigation.

Across town on Monday (March 18) night, members of the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment were investigating a traffic offence that evolved into a trespassing investigation and led officers to a loaded handgun and body armour.

That investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that may be related to either incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.
