Prescribed burns being held within Williams Lake city limits
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Two prescribed burns are set to take place within city limits in Williams Lake next week.
In a news release, the BC Wildfire Service says the prescribed burns will cover a combined 10 hectares in the Stampede Park Grounds, Hillside Park behind Lake City Secondary and Gibbon Street park near the water reservoir on Western Avenue.
The wildfire service says burning may begin as early as Monday (March 18) and continue periodically until Thursday (March 21) but ignitions will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow for quick smoke dissipation.
The wildfire service says it’s to burn combustible materials and mimic a naturally occurring ground fire to reduce the risk of a wildfire spreading within city limits. It says its staff will be working with members of the Williams Lake Fire Department to prepare, control and monitor the fires at all times.
