June 9, 1927 – March 4, 2024

On March 4, 2024, at the age of 96, Peter went to be with his Lord and Saviour. He is survived by his 4 children, Karen Buhler, Brenda (Ray) Thompson, Paul (Penny) Buhler, and Cheryl Buhler, his 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was born June 9, 1927, in Rosenfeld, MB, the sixth child in a family of 17. He was raised on a farm where he loved to climb trees as a boy and spend time with his many siblings. In his bachelor days he and his brother John worked in logging camps and then started their own farm in the Arden, MB area.

In 1954, he met his loving wife Susan (Loeppky) through letter correspondence. They were married in August of that year. They continued to farm together until Peter felt God calling him to ministry.

They moved to Steinbach for him to go to Bible School. After graduating they moved to Langdon, ND where he was a pastor for 6 years. They returned to Steinbach where Peter enrolled in further studies. They lived there until moving to Merritt, B.C. in 1986, where they loved to spend time with their first grandchild. Peter amazed everyone when at the age of 59 he built their family home.

In Peter’s lifetime he had various careers: farmer, logger, carpenter, school bus driver, salesperson, working with the disabled, realtor and accountant. But he most enjoyed being a church pastor.

Wherever the Lord led Peter he enjoyed taking part in the church, being a Minister, an elder, leading Bible studies or being a camp counsellor. Always willing to help wherever there was a need.

Peter enjoyed meeting people and sharing his love of Christ with them. He had opportunities to do this when he went for walks in the neighbourhood, volunteered at the local food bank, participated in events at the senior center, played dominoes with his friends at the Florentine or while connecting with friends and family on Facebook.

His love for learning never ended, he had an office full of books, and began learning the computer only in his 80s. He loved working in his garden, growing those special tomatoes for Susan and tending to his many beautiful flowers.

You always knew when Peter had a good story or joke to tell, he got a twinkle in his eye, before he began his tale.

Peter will be remembered as family man, who deeply loved his wife and children. But most of all he will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord and lived to serve him.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
