Remains found near Kamloops landfill identified as man missing since 2020

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say skeletal remains found near Mission Flats Landfill last month belonged to a man who has been missing for four years.

The remains were found on February 25, leading police to launch an investigation in conjunction with the B.C. Coroners Service.

In an update released Tuesday (March 5), spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says the remains have now been identified as having belonged to a 41-year-old man who was last seen on February 19, 2020. Evelyn says the man was reported to police as missing in May of 2020 and RCMP subsequently asked the public for information into his disappearance.

That information matches up with the disappearance of Jason Redhead.

“A media release was issued by the Kamloops RCMP Detachment requesting public assistance in June of 2020, after police were notified of his disappearance and other efforts to locate him had been exhausted,” said Evelyn. “We hope that his discovery brings some small amount of closure to those who have looked for him.”

Evelyn notes there is no criminality suspected in the man’s disappearance or death.

The man’s family has been notified and Evelyn says RCMP offer condolences to his family and friends.
