Sunday snowstorm leads to closures on Coquihalla, Trans Canada

KAMLOOPS — A late afternoon snowstorm in the Kamloops area Sunday (Feb. 25) caused chaos on local highways.

The southbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway were closed between Inks Lake and Walloper at about 8:00 p.m. due to a vehicle incident.

Drive BC anticipated it would post an update at 11:00 p.m.

Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for the route between Hope and Merritt, but did not have the alert in place for Merritt to Kamloops.

Meantime, Drive BC says the Trans Canada Highway is closed between Lytton and Hope through the Fraser Canyon due to downed hydro lines.

An update is expected at 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
