Suspect charged after weapons assault on Skeetchestn Reserve

KAMLOOPS — RCMP arrested a man in Kamloops last week after a serious assault with a weapon on the Skeetchestn Reserve.

Tk’emlups RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says officers were called to Skeetchestn last Friday (Feb. 16) to respond to reports of an assault and breach of a no-contact order.

Evelyn says a few hours later, Kamloops RCMP members were called to the 500-block of Notre Dame Drive for an intoxicated man refusing to leave an address. That’s when Mounties found the suspect in the Skeetchestn assault incident.

“The officer took the suspect into custody and he was held for court,” said Evelyn. “He was remanded in-custody to await his next appearance, scheduled for Feb. 23.”

RCMP are not naming the suspect in order to protect the identity of the victim. He is charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and failure to comply with a probation order.
