KAMLOOPS — A suspect in a 2023 robbery is under arrest after RCMP found an unresponsive man in a downtown Kamloops parking lot.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to a parking lot in the 400-block of 10th Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 19). Witnesses noticed a man unresponsive inside a running Honda Pilot. The Pilot was later reported stolen.

“Officers turned off the vehicle and recognized a man inside as wanted on an arrest warrant related to a Kamloops robbery in August,” said Evelyn. “He was held in custody for a bail hearing, during which he was released with a next court appearance date for Feb. 22, 2024.”

Mounties seized a pair of long guns from the Pilot.

Evelyn says RCMP have launched investigations related to prohibited driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm and breach of a release order, as well as a separate probe into the motor vehicle theft.

The suspect was also given a 24-hour driving ban and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Anyone with video or further information related to these investigations is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2024-5082.
