KAMLOOPS — Last April, the B.C. government, through BC Housing, purchased the vacant, fire damaged apartment building at 435 Cherry Avenue in Kamloops.

Due to the fire and other issues, the building required extensive renovations that were originally slated to be completed last summer and cost more than half-a-million dollars. However, challenges arose with the previous owner that have delayed the opening until later this year.

“We are working on that right now. And of course, there were requirements for some work to be done, but we have measures in place to ensure if that work doesn’t get done, we make sure our dollars are protected,” said Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon. “In the end, that work still needs to be happening and I know it’s happening now. I can’t wait for those units to open up because the need is great in the community.”
